I woke up last weekend with death cab for cutie in my head. I would have heard them somewhere so I looked them up. They sounded pretty good thanks to the free mp3s on their site.
I became a dad about a month ago, so I don’t get much sleep anymore. That and work has kept me in check most of the last 2 months or hence the silence.
I had to update WordPress on this blog too. I like open source a lot but sometimes I wish things won’t update so often. I’m getting old man, its hard to keep up with everything.
Just saw this Origami transforming stroller via Geek Brief TV. It looks cool and might work well as a golf caddy or something but I’m not putting my baby in there.
Contact Form ][ for my contact page. Then again gmail does such a good job of blocking spam I don’t really need a contact form anymore.
Feedburner Feed Replacement directs the default RSS feeds to FeedBurner. You can track feed stats etc with it. Haven’t found it too useful. Mostly bots no people.
Get Recent Comments shows recent comments on the home page. Gives a sense of an ongoing conversation.
Being the cutting edge type. I upgraded to WordPress 2.5 almost the next day it was released. It was too easy. I have this site on Dreamhost 1 click install and upgrade.
I paid the price. My old theme (a slightly modified version of K2) broke the WordPress admin dashboard.
I should have tested it locally but I thought I’d be daring. Only today I found the time to test things locally and deploy a decent working theme. By the way the search was broken before, I hope no one noticed
Here is what happend. K2 is a highly advanced theme with support for a lot of plugins and has its own sidebar manager. WordPess has its own sidebar manager. (Not as sleek as K2′s)
When I upgraded to WordPress 2.5 my old theme (K2 Release Candidate 4) broke the WordPress dashboard. I looked around quickly and found that K2 had fixed this in the main development branch. So now I moved to the last nightly snapshot of K2. K2 RC5 will be compatible with WordPress 2.5. Waiting for that.
I haven’t had a visiting card since I left Virtusa around 2005. I needed one when I was freelancing but never got around to it.
I got this done in a hurry, which is why there is a typo and the alignment could be a bit better. I’ve put in only the essentials here. I’m happy with it for now, until the next version. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Hits go up from Monday to Wednesday. Then goes down towards the weekend.
Weekdays visitors come first thing in the morning or after lunch around 2pm
There are less hits in the weekend, but visitors stay longer and read more posts.
So most visitors drop by for a quick check on weekdays starting on Monday. They probably check on Kottu and just pop into a few posts they like and go back.
This means my current tendency for short regular posts during weekdays work well. Visitors don’t have time to stick around for a long read anyway.
Its a good idea to write longer and in-depth content during the weekend.
